Pumpkin Patch!!

Today was the most gorgeous fall day! The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect for picking a pumpkin. We traveled 30 minutes down the road to Limo Land a local farm in Pulaski, TN. Our friends David, Kim and Lainey Sisk joined in for the family fun!

Houston and Lainey in their "ride"
We saw lots of great farm animals at the petting zoo including sheep, pigs, chickens and even a lama!

This guy terrified Houston, Lainey didn't seem to mind though!

Choosing a Houston size Pumpkin!

Houston and Lainey like to "help" with McKennon.
Last we rode the much anticipated by Houston, tractor hayride. He doesn't look too thrilled in this picture but I assure you he LOVED it!
The Sisk Family!
After the pumpkin patch we ended our day with pizza and pumpkin carving at our house.

Big Helper!
Houston's finished pumpkin that Mommy carved his initials in.

Doctors Visit

This week both kids had check-ups at the doctors; Houston's 2 year and Mckennon's 2 month. When scheduling the appointment I thought it would be a good idea to take them at the same time, however as the day approached I didn't feel as brave considering both kids were getting shots! So ultimately Daddy came the the rescue and we tag-teamed the process with Dr. Broadway! Both kids had great check-ups... Here were their "stats"
Houston Brooks, 27 lbs and 33.5 inches!
Elizabeth McKennon, 12 lbs 1 ounce and 24 inches long!!
Both kids were very well behaved but Houston made us so proud... Not only has he graduated to standing on a regular scale and being measured against the wall, he received a finger stick for blood work along with 2 shots and never cried a bit!!! We couldn't believe it he hardly flinched. I guess we have a little tough guy on our hands!

Discovery Center

On Wednesday Mom and I took the Houston and McKennon to the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro. It was so fun to see Houston playing pretend and we all had a great time. McKennon was an angel and slept the entire time in the front carrier. God Bless the inventor of the baby Bjorn!

My little mechanic!

Changing a tire!

Checking out the trains with Nana.

Nana putting on a puppet show for us!

Houston driving the "choo choo"!
Washing dishes... do you think I could teach him to do this at home?
Mommy and Houston jammin'!

This was hilarious... some how Houston knew exactly what to do with the headphones, of coarse they swallowed up his little head but he loved watching the Thomas the Train video!

Riding on the fire engine! Yes I know I look ridiculous... all for the love of my child!
The water table... definitely one of the highlights of the day... we saved it for last just in case we got a little too wet!
We had so much fun discovering all that the museum had to offer... We can't wait to return!

NICU Reunion

Saturday afternoon Houston and I attended his 2nd NICU reunion! Each year the hospital puts together a celebration for all of their NICU graduates with food, crafts, and games. It is a wonderful opportunity for the families as well as the NICU staff to reunite. Since Houston surprised us 5 weeks early we spent 2 long weeks in the NICU at MRMC. As an employee of the hospital itself I am bias and believe it to be a wonderful place. However words cannot express my gratitude towards the NICU. Having your first child is a terrifying experience in itself but when your child is premature your life is sent into a tailspin. Fortunately we were lucky that Houston only had minor problems with his breathing and jaundice. I will never forget our experience in the hospital... while stressful, and exhausting it will always be the place where Brooks and I fell in love with our son.

I can't believe he was ever this tiny!

Bless his heart, look at his little oxygen cannula.

Houston under the bili-light.

It is hard to believe that that tiny little baby has become this exuberant little boy... look at what fun we had at the reunion.....
Here is Houston getting his palm painted to get his hand print made... he originally picked out pink, I suggested blue.
They had a face painting booth which where Houston decided he and I both needed ghosts painted onto our hands!

Enjoying some of the refreshments!

This is one of the NICU nurses who holds a very special place in our hearts. She cared for Houston many days of his stay but was also his co-star in the NICU commercial that they filmed while we were there. Amazingly enough when McKennon was born she happened to be her nurse in the regular nursery! We love Miss Georgia!
This is another one of our favorite nurses, Becca, she was not only wonderful with Houston but she served to be such an amazing inspiration to me. She was my rock when I felt like life was caving in, and for that I will forever be grateful.

All in all, Houston and I had a wonderful time! Mommy and Daddy are so proud of their little NICU Graduate!

10 weeks

Our sweet Elizabeth McKennon (or Kemma as Houston calls her) turned 10 weeks old yesterday... she is growing like a weed! It is amazing how alert and active she already is. She absolutely loves attention! She is all smiles when talked to, sung to and played with. She definitely recognizes her mommy's and daddy's voices and is amazed with Houston.

Playing on the floor her arms and legs go a mile a minute!

This is the look she gives Houston when he talks to her... And while Houston is a sweet big brother you can already see the fear in her eyes; it like she's already thinking "what are you going to do to me?"

Do you know the Muffin Man?

One of Houston's most favorite things for breakfast is blueberry muffins. Along with loving to eat them he loves to "help" me cook them... now we may bake them, but I have to admit the muffin mix is pre-made and we only add milk and stir... while they are baking Houston likes to lick and spoon and bowl... here is the aftermath!

One happy little muffin man!!!

Houston's 2nd Birthday!!

Last Friday was Houston's 2nd Birthday and boy did we celebrate!! Our festivities kicked off when Houston woke up from his nap that afternoon and was surprised with his gift from Brooks and I... his very own kitchen. He LOVES to watch me cook and always wants to help so we thought this would be the perfect gift!

Here is the Birthday boy with his "manly" kitchen.
We then went to Brook's grandparents for dinner, gifts and cake with Ginna, Pooky, MeMe and Pops (A.K.A Aha). We had some of Houston's favorite things for dinner, cheeseburgers, green beans and orange Jello! The lucky birthday boy recieved a tricycle from MeMe and Pops and a big red wagon from Ginna and Pooky. Both gifts have been a hit, interestingly enough Houston would rather push the tricycle than ride it but oh well!

MeMe helped Houston open some of his other gifts
Aunt Kadi got Houston this great wooden tool box... He has been fixing things all week!

Here is the Birthday boy with his first of 2 Elmo cakes for the weekend!
Even McKennon was having a great time celebrating!
On Saturday we had Houston's birthday party with some of our friends at JumpZone. JumpZone is a large warehouse type room that is filled with huge inflatable moonwalks, obstacle courses and slides. The party was a huge success and everyone including the adults had a blast! After the party we were all exhausted!! I'll have to post pictures later because I'm still trying to figure out this whole blogging thing!
