How much damage can a Geo do???

Oh blog how I missed you and it is now time to catch up.... so how much damage can a Geo do? Well, It can crack your foundation, ruin your kitchen and cause a a little family of 4 to have to move out for 2 months while the repairs are made! Thankfully we were blessed enough that no one was hurt but on March 8th at 3:30 in the morning I can tell you I have never been more terrified in my life. I had been up with Mckennon not long before so I was not completely asleep when I heard a glass shattering, crashing noise that rattled the house. Not knowing what it was I instinctively screamed bloody murder, which in turn caused Brooks to scream (he is a very deep sleeper) and we both jumped out of the bed and ran into the kids rooms where we snatched them out of bed and returned to our bedroom and locked the door. I honestly thought someone had broke in our house and Brooks was so disoriented he was just doing what I told him to. I immediately called 911, I can't explain how hard my heart was pounding, how fast I was breathing and the fear that was flowing through my body... I'm not sure I will ever forget that feeling. The dispatcher assured me that the police were on the way and that we did the right thing by locking ourselves in our bedroom. The children were sleepy and quite as we held them tight and the very few minutes it took for the police to arrive seemed like an eternity. It wasn't till the police ran around to the side of our house with their guns drawn (they thought they had caught a burglar because they could see his tail lights) that they realized someone had driven into the side of our kitchen and ran off!! To make matters worse gas was hissing from the car and the vehicle was beginning to catch on fire. At this point the 911 dispatcher is telling us to wrap the kids in blankets and go out our front door Immediately.... we hurried down the hall still oblivious to what was going out ran out the door the the front yard to see a car on fire suspended over our basement stairs and knocked into the side of our house. The fire department arrived next while we woke up our neighbor across the street to bring the children inside to be warm. Luckily the fire department arrived just in time to extinguish the fire that was now engulfing the entire car and quickly about to spread to our house... how blessed we were that only minimal smoke damage was done. A case of beer was found in the passenger side of the car and when the tags were ran we found out the the vehicle belonged to a man with prior DUI's.... figures he must of passed out and ran off the road drove in between 2 trees that only a geo metro could fit through and right into the casa de Jones!
At first glance I wasn't sure how much damage had been done but after the contractor arrived and engineer assessed the damages the estimate quickly rose up to $20,000 in damages. The pictures don't do justice and I'm not sure where my photos of the kitchen went but we ended up with a new exterior brick wall, window and and entire new kitchen!!

So what may you ask happened to the driver?? He was picked up a few weeks later and charged with recklace endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident... that went along with his 13 prior DUI's and the $40,000 in back child support he owed... needless to say he will be in jail for next few years!
